WHAT WE ARE LOVING - AUGUST

Here's where we connect you with our favorite tips and tricks about all things health and wellness. It's also a new month, which brings about new opportunities for growth, education, community, and of course, self-care.

WHAT WE'RE EATING

DC Summer Restaurant week is back and we can’t think of a better way to begin the month. From Monday August 9th until Sunday August 15th, over 200 restaurants across the DC area will have dinner menus for $35 and or $55 per person, and $22 lunches and brunches. View participating restaurants.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

Did you know that the largest private contemporary art museum in the United States is in Potomac, MD?

We scored coveted tickets to this private contemporary art museum that releases free admission at the beginning of each month for two months in advance. Set on 230 acres (yes, that swath of land exists right outside of the beltway!), the museum's exhibitions are drawn from a collection of about 1,300 works from post-World War II artists around the world. Learn more.

WHAT WE'RE READING

Founder of the weekly newsletter for Women of Color, Will & Way, Nikki Carter penned this beautiful essay on the pandemic, connecting with her grandparents, and saying goodbye in “Dewdrops on the Flowers: On Grief and Gratitude.” Read the essay at Clerestory Magazine.

My grandmother loved flowers. Originally from a farm in South Korea, she knew how to tend to things, how to get them to grow and thrive. You couldn’t miss the garden she planted out front, the colorful flowers and little figurines welcoming you to the home she shared with my grandfather.

WHAT WE'RE TRYING

We love a good hike every now and then—you’re able to explore new places and get some much-needed fresh air (after a year or so of being in the house). Secret DC compiled a list of 10 trails to check out around DC and in preparation for your upcoming hike, we found this great article on Goop that provides healthy and simple snacks and meals to try out. Explore DC trails.
