What got you into massage, how long have you been practicing?

I’ve been practicing for four years, I got into massage after undergraduate school. With a degree in health-physical education/exercise science, I wanted something that complimented my degree.

What’s your massage super-power?

I like to work with rehabilitation. If someone is post-surgery or after an accident, massage speeds up the recovery process and increases overall performance as well.

I love to see a client progress. After a few sessions I can see improved range of motion and more flexibility than when I saw them three months ago. When they say, “life is better now because I can do x,y,z - either a hobby, play with children, or even work without pain,” my job is done!

How often do you recommend bodywork?

People want stuff fixed now.… but you have to create a treatment plan and come regularly. If you don’t, and you go back and do what you do normally—bad habits, bad posture—you’re still going to have the same results because you haven’t changed anything about your lifestyle. So making massage a part of your wellness routine is key.

And do you give tips after a massage?

Many times I suggest home exercises or postural improvements. For example if you work on a computer, make sure to take a break even for five minutes every hour. Be more mindful of your body. Be mindful if you’re working out to stretch afterwards or do a small warmup and then workout. There’s definitely a home component outside of the treatment room, because at the end of the day we are only with you for an hour and it’s easy to undo the work we have done by going back to your old ways.
